98 °

True to your heart.

Be true to your heart when you hear 98° bring the pop on July 19, 2019 at 9:00 PM inside the WinStar Global Event Center.

98° emerged from a pop music era that boy-bands were all the craze. Their staying power comes, however, from how they differentiated themselves from other acts by including a strong R&B influence and by writing much of their own material. This group, with powerhouse brothers Nick and Drew Lachey, are known for hits like “I Do (Cherish You)”, “True to Your Heart,” and “The Hardest Thing.” In just five short years, 98° scored six Top 20 Hits and sold more than 10 million records.

When you groove on down to WinStar on July 19, you can expect to hear hit singles “Thank God I Found you,” “Because of You,” “I Do” and “The Hardest Thing.” Doors to this event open at 7:30 PM for the 9:00 PM showtime. Pick up your tickets at Ticketmaster or at the Global Event Center box office.

Linda Davis & The Scott Family
For Linda Davis & The Scott Family, it is definitely a family affair with an emphasis on family-oriented entertainment. Linda Davis and Lang Scott are the cornerstones of the group. Married for 34 years, they are parents to 18-year old Rylee and Hillary, a member of one of country music’s biggest acts, Lady Antebellum. As a family, the Scotts released the award-winning faith-based album, Love Remains, in 2016, which won two Grammys as well as Dove and Billboard Awards.

In addition to the honors she won as part of Love Remains, Davis is a multi- Grammy-award winning recording artist who has toured and recorded with superstars including Reba McEntire (“Does He Love You”) and Kenny Rogers. She also toured as opening act for George Strait and Garth Brooks. She makes frequent guest artist appearances on the Opry and RFD TV ’s popular show, Country’s Family Reunion.

Her husband, Lang Scott, is a former recording artist for MCA Records and the first winner of the national TV show You Can Be A Star. His songs have been recorded by a number of top country artists, including LeAnn Rimes and JoDee Messina. For eight years, he was featured in Reba’s band as guitarist and background vocalist, and played on many of her biggest records.

Youngest daughter Rylee has always loved music and theater, and has been in countless school and community plays. Having spent her entire life surrounded by music and talented musicians, it was only natural that she gravitated towards music, not only as a vocation, but also a passion.

Together, Rylee, Scott and Davis tour as Linda Davis & The Scott Family, offering audiences their harmony driven songs and behind the scenes stories of family life and from the perspective of being inside the goldfish bowl that is country music.

“We have been blessed to tour and record with some of the biggest names in music,” said Lang Scott. “But there’s nothing like being able to work with your family, creating memories for ourselves as well as the music lovers who come out to see and meet us. It’s a feeling that has no equal.”

Kenny Loggins

Everybody get footloose!

Tell yourself “I’m Alright” and fly into the “Danger Zone,” because “This Is It”. Legendary hitmaker Kenny Loggins takes over WinStar’s Global Event Center on Friday, June 14 at 8:00 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM.

At the age of seven, Kenny Loggins watched two older brothers try, and fail, at writing a song. “I remember thinking, it just can’t be that hard.” So, Kenny wrote his own tune and hasn’t stopped since.

As a high schooler in Los Angeles, Loggins sang and played guitar, eventually scoring a job at ABC/Wingate for $100 a week with one of his first songs, “House at Pooh Corner,” recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. At the same time, Loggins met the man who would help launch his career: Jim Messina. Their 1971 album featured Loggins’ own version of “Pooh Corner” plus “Danny’s Song.” In the next five years Loggins and Messina churned out hit after hit, from “Angry Eyes” and “Thinking of You” to “Your Mama Don’t Dance.”

His 1977 solo album, Celebrate Me Home, and his duet single with Stevie Nicks, “Whenever I Call You Friend,” launched Loggins into an unrivaled rock music career that included memorable movie soundtracks for Caddyshack and Top Gun, and his biggest hit, “Footloose.” “This is It” was another Grammy-winning song and Loggins also featured prominently in the epic charity single “We Are the World.”

Loggins’ work on favorite soundtracks, hit albums, worldwide stages and children’s books continue to cross a stunning variety of genres. “I’ve been lucky that I love what I do, and I get to keep doing it,” he says. And you’ll be more than lucky to spend an evening with an unparalleled musical master at the Global Event Center on June 14.

Music on Main presents Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis

Bruce Robison has been making music professionally for decades. He still discusses his craft with so much enthusiasm he sounds almost like a kid raving about superheroes. That infectious energy is evident in every note of his new album, Bruce Robison & the Back Porch Band, as well as his new project, The Next Waltz, a blossoming community of artists, fans and friends gathering both virtually and at his recording studio in Lockhart, just outside of Austin.

In both cases, the point is to celebrate country music’s rich traditions while giving creativity free rein to go where it might, as long as it’s somewhere worth traveling. It’s also about celebrating Robison’s “love of the craft of song.”
https://www.brucerobison.com/

Kelly Willis is Back Being Blue, to take a color-coded cue from the title of her seventh album. It’s a shade she wears well, though long-patient fans might just say: You had us at back. They’ll take a new Willis record in whatever hue it comes, now that it’s been 11 years since her last solo release, 2007’s Translated from Love. The Austin-based singer/songwriter has hardly been MIA in the intervening years, having recorded and toured as part of a duo with Bruce Robison. But she’s setting the duet Mm.Oo. aside for do-it-alone mode, at least as far as the spotlight is concerned. (Robison hovers just outside it this time, as producer.). Hers is a solo voice again, but it’s not necessarily sotto voce: This is an album of songs about lonesomeness that also happens to be a cracklingly good time.
“I know I’ve been around through many different phases of my genre of music. Whether it was the New Traditionalist, or Alt. Country or Americana.”

Opening for Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis is Chase Bowen.

Stoney LaRue live at the National Sandbass Festival

Logan Russell and the Young Guns opening

Stoney LaRue plays music that combines the rootsy, emotionally honest sound of country with the beer-drinking swagger of heartland rock and a dash of the moody undercurrents of the blues. LaRue was born in Taft, Texas, into a musical family — his father played bass in a number of local bands — and he grew up listening to the country and Southern rock that would inform his later work. When he was a teenager, LaRue’s family pulled up stakes for Oklahoma, and with time LaRue would become part of the Stillwater, Oklahoma “Red Dirt” musical community, along with likeminded acts such as Cross Canadian RagweedJason Boland, and Mike McClure.

Jammin’ on the Square

Ty England Concert at the National Sandbass Festival

Arbuckle Xpress Band opening

Ty England is Alive and Well and Livin’ the Dream and making the best music of his career. A career starting with Garth Brooks as a couple of college pals, country music hopefuls, who promise to stick together no matter what.

One of those guys is Garth Brooks, destined to become the fastest-selling solo artist in history. The other is Ty England, a singer and guitar player who hit the concert road with Garth and became an instant fan favorite.

After several years on Garth’s history-making tour, Ty signed with RCA and made two albums, Ty England and Two Ways to Fall. His signature top-5 hit, “Should’ve Asked Her Faster” remains a hotly requested number, while Entertainment Weekly called his debut album “a remarkably poised performance” and gave it an “A” rating. When he moved to Capitol Records with Highways & Dance Halls, produced by none other than his good friend Garth Brooks, noted music critic Rich Kienzle pointed to Ty’s “traditionalist integrity” and called the record “magnificent.”

Ty has retained his solid fan base by staying with what brought him to the dance — bona fide country music. “I grew up on it,” Ty reflects. “My grandpa taught me to play the old country songs on guitar. My country music buddies and I took it from there”. His concert tours consistently reflect those roots and get rave reviews, such as the one in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that pointed to the ease with which he vocally moves from “…ballads to honky tonk to Western swing…with real conviction.”

Music on Main presents Monte Montgomery

In between, it’s a mix of dark, edgy rock to light, breezy pop-like melodies. There’s the pure rocker “Can’t Fool Everyone” and the jazzy, vibey “Could’ve Loved You Forever”. And just when you think you’ve got him pegged, Monte changes it up to leave you breathless with the sensual, lyrical, Latin-tinged “Moonlight Tango.”

John Conlee concert at the National Sandbass Festival

C Seven Band opening

One of the most respected vocalists to emerge during the urban cowboy era, John Conlee was known for his superb taste in material and his distinctively melancholy voice. Conlee was born and raised on a tobacco farm in Versailles, KY, in 1946, and took up the guitar as a child, performing on local radio at age ten. He went on to sing with the town barbershop chorus, but didn’t initially pursue music as a career, instead becoming a licensed mortician. He also worked as a disc jockey at numerous area radio stations, and made important industry connections via that area when he moved to Nashville in 1971. Five years later, Conlee’s demo tape got him a contract with ABC. He released a few singles, but didn’t find acceptance until 1978’s “Rose Colored Glasses,” a song he’d co-written with a newsman at his radio station, rocketed into the country Top Five. Conlee spent the next decade or so scoring hit after hit, nearly all of them helmed by producer Bud Logan. He had two number ones in 1979 alone — “Lady Lay Down” and “Backside of Thirty” — and four number two hits through 1981, which included “Before My Time,” “Friday Night Blues,” “She Can’t Say That Anymore,” and “Miss Emily’s Picture.” Conlee returned to the top of the charts three times over 1983-1984 with “Common Man,” “I’m Only in It for the Love,” and “In My Eyes,” and had his last number one in 1986 with “Got My Heart Set on You.” All told, Conlee made the Top Ten 19 times through 1987, when he moved from MCA to Columbia and reached the Top Five with “Domestic Life.” Never much for touring, Conlee subsequently curtailed his recording activities as well, instead devoting his time to charity work (often on behalf of American farmers), raising his family, and running his own farm outside Nashville.

Colton Dixon in concert at the National Sandbass Festival

Tennessee native Colton Dixon first caught the attention of his fans on season eleven of “American Idol.” Placing seventh on the popular music competition, Colton is now following in the footsteps of fellow Idol alums Mandisa and Jason Castro, by venturing into the world of Christian music.

Colton started singing as a teen, and always wanted to use his gift for ministry. “I started singing when I was 13 years old. I truly believe my voice was a gift from God to share the Message,” he says. “I hope that you enjoy my music, but furthermore, I hope you can connect with it personally and apply it to your everyday lives.”

During his time on Idol, Colton sang a powerful rendition of “Everything,” by Lifehouse – a song that has special significance to him. “‘Everything’ by Lifehouse is one of my favorite worship songs of all time,” he said. “I was on YouTube and I saw a skit that someone had done with the song and it was so powerful! I can’t watch it with out crying…it’s so impacting! I saw ‘American Idol’ as an opportunity to bring the same impact to the viewers on the show.”
