Join in! On the Love Train!
Whether it’s their R&B, soul, pop, funk or disco sound, we all know the anthems that have moved us for more than four decades: “Love Train,” “For The Love of Money,” “Livin’ for the Weekend,” “Family Reunion,” “Stairway to Heaven,” “I Love Music,” “Cry Together…” And now the O’Jays are bringing their biggest hits to the Global Event Center stage on July 26.
Two iconic voices — the powerful Eddie Levert and the silky-smooth Walter Williams, Sr., both founding members of The O’Jays in 1958 — are so unmistakable that their hits are now landmarks in pop culture consciousness.
The O’Jays made their first chart appearance with “Lonely Drifter,” but they reached supreme success once a team of producers and songwriters, Gamble & Huff, signed them to their label in 1972. That’s when The O’Jays emerged at the forefront of Philly soul with their album “Back Stabbers” and topped the Billboard Hot 100 the following year with “Love Train.” And the hits kept coming through the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, with 10 number one singles, 10 gold and nine platinum albums. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, as well as The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the following year.
Now The O’Jays are releasing their first new music in 15 years, what they are calling their final album, “The Last Word.” The disc was produced by the Grammy-nominated trio of Steve Greenberg, Mike Mangini and R&B legend Betty Wright (the producers behind Joss Stone’s “Soul Sessions”), along with the songwriter and rock/pop mastermind Sam Hollander (Panic! at the Disco, Weezer, Neon Trees).
Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to see modern musical giants and groove to the timeless sound of The O’Jays, at the WinStar Global Event Center on July 26.
