What do we think we know about black bears? They’re black, right? (Sometimes, but they are also brown or cinnamon or blonde). They hibernate, right? (Kind of – they undergo ‘winter lethargy’, but don’t get as cold or slow as true hibernators.) They’re carnivores, right? (Bears are actually omnivores up to about 85% of their diet is plant material.) Yes, but they eat people, don’t they? (On average, one person per year is killed by a black bear as opposed to an average of 30-50 people per year killed by dogs.)
