Denison Dam and Lake Texoma spans the border of Texas and Oklahoma. The reservoir lies within the counties of Bryan, Marshall, Johnson and Love in Oklahoma, Cooke and Grayson counties in Texas.
Authorized for construction by the Flood Control Actof 1938, for flood control and the generation of hydroelectric power, the dam, spillway and outlet works construction were started in August 1939 and completed in February 1944. When completed,Denison Dam was America’s largest rolled, earth-filled dam. The first hydroelectric turbine placed in operation was in March 1945 and the
second unit in September 1949. Texoma is the largest lake in capacity in the Tulsa District and 12th largest lake in the United States.
