The tour through the cemetery allows people to learn about influential figures from Sherman and the Grayson County area. \nThe tour will guide tourists through West Hill Cemetery\, stopping at the graves and historical markers of various prominent local people. This year’s tour will include Dr. George R. Stephens\, Sherman Mayor; Perry Frederick Goben\, Early Photographer; Dr. P.T. Vaught\, Optometrist & Radio Gospel Singer; Olive Oatman Fairchild\, survivor of an abduction; and Mausoleum\, Tiffany Stained glass. \nEach stop will allow tourists to hear the stories and history of these individuals through character actors playing each historical figure. \n“History Comes Alive is a wonderful\, and fun\, way for people to ‘interact’ and learn from the past\,” states Natalie R. Bonner\, Assistant Director of The Sherman Museum. \n“History Comes Alive” is scheduled for Saturday\, September 28 2019. Tickets are available\, but they are limited so please order quickly. Ticket times are available from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every half hour with the 12:00 p.m. time being handicap accessible. Tickets can be purchased in person at the museum\, by phone at (903) 893-7623\, or at the Touch of Class Antique store on the corner of Crockett Street and Lamar Street in downtown Sherman. Virginia. In conjunction with these tours\, Mr. Giersch will feature the McKinney GIS (Geographic Information System) Department’s new digital maps that serve as perfect tools for folks wishing to explore our historic district on their own anytime or to revisit the steps from their tour with Mr. Giersch. \nThese tours are free\, and bottled water and snacks are being provided by our friends at Costco McKinney.
