All skills are welcome and needed\, as kids will not only learn from instructors\, but also from one another.\nThis event is open to Texoma Sailing Club members and their guest ages 8 – 18.  Registration\nGoal and approach:\nTo give young sailors an appreciation of sailing as both a competitive and recreational activity that can last a lifetime. Learning on a small boat is not only fun\, but it is the best way to learn how to sail. Because of their size and responsiveness\, they make it easier to understand how boat\, wind\, water and ballast all work together.\nThe best sailors start out on dingies!\nRequirements: \nLife jackets are mandatory at all times on the water  \nParent or guardian must be present for the whole event  \nA basic understanding of boat terminology (this will be distributed by email)  \nBring your own:  \nlife jacket  \nsunscreen  \nhats\, gloves  \nsnacks/drinks  \nsmall sailboat (if you have one)  \nsmall chase boat (if you have one)  \ncameras (we need pictures for our web page)  \nCost:\n$20 (fee is to cover repairs and a to contribute to a boat fund for future young sailors)\nT shirts may also be ordered (approximate cost $15)\nFormat: \nAn hour of on land discussion of safety\, points of sail\, boat rigging and boat terminology\, waterway rules and courtesy  \nTime near shore to learn boarding\, righting\, taking off and beaching  \nOpen sailing to get used to the boat  \nTacking exercises  \nDestination and return exercises  \nRacing or open sailing  \nBoat break-down and loading  \nChase boats will be available for assistance

DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n					\n				 – 			 \n					\n							 \n\n\nAll aboard the all-electric Carlos and Eulalia Cardinal Express for a 60 – 90 minute tour along Wildlife Drive at the Refuge.  Free (donations accepted). Guided tours offered  at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays\, weather permitting.  Call 903 786 2826 for reservations since seating is limited.  Standbys are accepted\, if space permits.  Tours are recommended for age 6 – adult.  Please note – volunteers cannot access messages on Refuge phone system\, to make a reservation or to cancel\,  please speak to a volunteer 9 am – 4 pm Monday – Saturday or 1 – 5 pm on Sundays\, thank you. And sorry\, no dogs other than service animals are allowed on board the tram. \n\n		\n\n\nFriends of Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge\n \n\n\n\n				\n					\n					Google Calendar				\n			\n\n				\n					\n					iCal Export
